The 1987 World Series was the championship series of Major League Baseball's (MLB) 1987 season. The 84th edition of the World Series, it was a best-of-seven playoff played between the American League (AL) champion Minnesota Twins and the National League (NL) champion St. Louis Cardinals. The Twins defeated the Cardinals four games to three to win the Series. Twins pitcher Frank Viola was named as the 1987 World Series MVP. The final game of the series (Game 7) was played Sunday, October 25, 1987 at Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the 500th World Series game played, and also the 35th birthday of the Twins' Roy Smalley – as well as the last game of his career. The Twins went on to win the game, scoring 4 runs to the Cardinals’ 2.
